God’s Pleasure

Noah stepped from the ark onto dry ground and looked to the sky.
“Thank you, God, for saving me and my family and the animals.”
“My pleasure,” said the Lord.
“I’ll release the animals right away to go out and repopulate the world.”
“Very good, Noah. But first, you must sacrifice one of every clean animal on the ark to me.”
“But why, God?” asked Noah. “Why did you save them, only to have me kill them?”
“Because the aroma of burning meat greatly pleases me,” answered the Lord. “And I haven’t smelt a burnt offering for over a year.”
