Grieve for the widow
Cry for the child
Weep for the mother
The Lesser Than
–
Mourn for the victims
Of missiles and bombs
Wail for the wounded
Battered and Torn
Ache for the hungry
With no food to eat
Who rue the day
They were ever born
–
But my thoughts resist
They’re not my kind
They’re not my religion
They’re not my tribe
–
So why should I bother?
Why should I care?
About mere strangers
Lesser Than I?
–
Yet deep down inside
I know it’s wrong
To harden my heart
To those in distress
–
Compassion can not be
Confined or denied
Although we’re much different
We’re much more alike
–
We’re made in God’s image
By his own hand
No human on earth
Can be Lesser Than
