The Night Creature

I lie in bed, silent and still. The dim glow of the nightlight casts eerie shadows on the wall.
Above me, the faint outline of the heater vent gapes at me with open mouth and slatted teeth. The air rustles. A shadow flickers. Two pinpoints of red appear, the hungry, bloodshot eyes of the creature who visits me every night.
I’m not afraid. I close my eyes as the creature pounces and devours me with sleep.
