A Pendulous Task, Swinging

“You need to develop a writing habit,” the experts say. “Set a goal every day to write 100, 200, 500 words or more. Maybe even 1000 per day if you can, and you will write a complete novel in 60 days.”
So here I sit at my desk, laptop open, document blank, brain a ghost town. Despite what the experts say, I’ve learned there’s no simple path or shortcut to success. Writing is inherently difficult — a pendulous task swinging from tedium to terror — except when words flow freely and it morphs to magic. Like now, as I complete 100 words.
