Cot in the Blur

You wake on the basement cot. 

Why are you here? How long have you been here?

The dawn’s early light peaks through the window overhead. 

Betsy, the tabby cat, meows close by. 

You remember. You came to find her after she scampered down the basement stairs. 

Betsy hops on the cot to snuggle, furry, soft, and warm. 

She purrs. Time blurs. Hours pass as seconds. 

It’s dark again, and you are tired.  

You fall asleep, Betsy curled in a ball next to you.  

You wake on the basement cot.
