Connor’s Cookbook Conundrum

One rainy Saturday morning, Connor, a very ordinary, bored-out-of his-mind teenager, was looking for a snack in the pantry when he found a vegan cookbook on the top shelf. The cover featured a colorful montage of salads, soups, and sandwiches that looked surprisingly appetizing.
He browsed the pages and marveled at the variety of plant-based foods with nary an animal dish to be found. No meat, no eggs, no dairy. Only foods made from vegetables, fruits, grains, and the like. Everything looked delicious!
At that moment, he decided he would save the animals and become a vegan.
“Mom, look what I found,” he cried, as he clutched the cookbook in one hand and walked over to the range where mom was cooking breakfast. “Can you make me something from this?”
She saw the book and smiled, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “Sure can, son. So I guess you won’t be eating any bacon, eggs, and tater tots for breakfast?”
Connor’s stomach growled as the tantalizing smells of animal-goodness invaded his nose. He was suddenly famished, and his newly found vegan desires melted like butter on toast.
“Yes please,” he said weakly, “and buttered toast too. I’ll become a vegan tomorrow.”
