All the Space He Needs

“Jimmy, dear, why don’t you take a break for a couple of hours? Let’s try out that new Thai restaurant in town. I hear it’s great. We haven’t gone out in ages.”

“I can’t Babe, I’m working on this project, and can’t take any time off. You know that.” 

“Not even a couple of hours? Come on, honey. Let’s go out tonight for a nice meal and drinks and just chill. Pretty please?”

“I’ll rest when the project is done and not before, okay Jeanie?”

What about you Jimmy? I’m concerned about your health. You’re stressed out all the time and on edge. Is this project really worth the wear-and-tear?” Is success worth sacrificing your well-being?”   

“Look babe, I have to keep pushing till I’m done. I know I’ve been working on this for a long time, but it will really help my career. If I don’t do this, someone else will take my place and get all the credit. And the money.” 

“I’m really not as concerned about your career or money as I am about us. What about us?”

“Jeanie! Listen! I’ve got to see this through, all right? I can’t take a break right now. Give me some space!”

“Then I can’t do this anymore. We rarely spend time together, and when we do, you’re checked out. I think you care more about your work than you do me. I’ll give you all the space you need. I want to break up with you.”
