Grieve for the widow
Cry for the child
Weep for the mother
The Lesser Than
–
Mourn for the victims
Of missiles and bombs
Wail for the wounded
Battered and Torn
–
But my thoughts resist
They’re not my kind
They’re not my religion
They’re not my tribe
–
So why should I bother?
Why should I care?
About mere strangers
Lesser Than I?
–
Yet deep down inside
I know it’s wrong
To harden my heart
To those in distress
–
Compassion can not be
Confined or denied
Although we’re much different
We’re much more alike
–
We’re made in God’s image
By his own hand
No human on earth
Can be Lesser Than
