The Edge Of The Cliff

She snuggles close to me as we sit on the edge of the cliff, our legs swinging freely above the raging surf and jagged rocks below. Do it now, I think — a slip, a fall, a tragic accident, I’ll say — and soon, the $500,000 life insurance benefit will be mine.
She kisses me. “I love you,” she says, “and I’m sorry.” She pushes and I fall, my limbs flailing helplessly in the air. I knew I should have cancelled the million-dollar policy on my life, ever since I saw the photo of her with my best friend in bed.
