She snuggles close to me as we sit on the edge of the cliff, our legs swinging freely above the raging surf and jagged rocks below. Do it now, I think—a slip, a fall, a tragic accident, I’ll say—and soon, the $500,000 life insurance benefit will be mine.
She kisses me. “I love you,” she says, “and I’m sorry.” She pushes and I fall, my limbs flailing helplessly in the air. I knew I should have cancelled the million-dollar policy on my life, ever since I saw the photo of her with my best friend in bed.
