Jimmy points to the empty container on the kitchen counter. “Okay, Skippy, ‘fess up!”
I look away like I don’t see him.
“Skippy?”
I hang my head. I’m busted. I say nothing; my guilt is written on my face.
Jimmy gags. “Yuck, that’s disgusting. But why? They were for my fishing trip tomorrow.”
Even if I could tell him, he wouldn’t understand why I love those jumping little crickets — so crunchy, salty, and lip-smacking delicious.
Jimmy chuckles and pats my head. “You silly mutt. From now on, I guess I need to buy a can of crickets just for you.”
